Sometimes, families need financial assistance to get their kids into a sport or physical activity. Together with JumpStart, we're committed to helping all families in our community.

 Funding Requirements

  • Children must fall between the ages of 4 - 18 years old.
  • Funding is allocated to sustained programs that involve a sport or physical activity. Stingers House League Softball qualifies.
  • To be eligible for funding for one or more children, families must first meet specific financial criteria as per Revenue Canada’s Low-Income Cut-Offs (LICO) chart. Jumpstart uses the furthest column to the right of the chart for eligibility.
  • For families who are new to Canada, Canadian financial history criteria may not be required for application purposes.
  • Funding can be used for registration fees, equipment or both.

Newmarket Stingers partnership with PLAY to LEAD

Jumpstart Play to Lead Program

The Stingers are proud to be partnering with  Jumpstart's PLAY to LEAD program. Like Jumpstart, we know that gender equity builds better sport! Our hope for our involvement with Play to Lead is for female athletes and their coaches to gather, learn, empower one another, and build lasting bonds to contribute to gender equity in our local Newmarket sports community.

2 athletes and 2 coaches are taking part in this incredible 9-month program through 2023. Our insights and key learning will be shared with our entire hive.

Newmarket Minor Softball Association is a proud recipient of an Ontario Trillium Fund Grant

Our Goal for Seed Funding from the Trillium Fund:

The need is to provide better trained coaches and officials. By improving current coaches and providing targeted training to
15-18 year-old players to become coaches, we will create succession planning for continued high quality programming. As a
league, we also recognize "participants with an untrained coach have an attrition rate of 26% compared to 5% for children
coached by trained individuals." A grant will fund training our coaches, who in turn will provide better programming &
resources and grow our player numbers to over 300 in the next 2 years. We want to promote our league as offering the best
houseleague coaching in the region and engage more children into the sport of softball from ages 5 to 18. We are targeting
female players to provide them with an inclusive, safe environment, active lifestyle and ability to learn coaching skills. We want to live up to the expectations of the community-based sport potential in the Newmarket community. Coaching Clinics will
include; Learn to Coach, Community Softball Coach, Drills Drills Drills and CanPitch. Accredited Clinics are administered by
Softball Ontario and/or Softball Canada. We will track training progress, attrition rates and number of female players/coaches
who receive accredited training.

Parent Involvement

Parents can help play many roles in sport: current or former athlete, coach, fan, motivator, role model or official. A few studies have shown that family members may influence an athlete’s involvement and achievement in sport more than coaches. Parents also are the first and most critical agents at socializing sports. Parents are an important part of our hive. Their positive influence makes our organization fun, safe and inclusive for all.

Newmarket is proud to offer the CanPitch Program

What is the Canpitch Program?

Canpitch was created to introduce and develop the fundamental skills of windmill pitching to Canada’s children and youth. Canpitch instructors in each province teach a nationally standardized curriculum founded in Long Term Player Development (LTPD) principles that reflects an athlete-centered approach to learning.

The benefits of a nationally standardized pitching program like Canpitch are:

  • All athletes across Canada will have the opportunity to learn how to pitch from experts.
  • Improved skills will improve competitiveness at the local, provincial and national levels.
  • Canpitch Instructors are part of a national network of pitching coaches that are trained through Softball Canada's NCCP Pitching. They participate in professional development sessions, which fosters a sense of community and the sharing of best practices.
